 What's New for the 2018 Toyota RAV4?

By the time the Toyota RAV4 entered the 2018 model year, it was nearing the end of its fourth production cycle. New for the model year is the RAV4 Adventure, which is primed as an optimized off-road variant of the compact crossover vehicle. Exclusive to the Adventure are features like large overfender flares, lower body guards, Adventure badging, black headlight bezels and fog lamp surrounds, and 18-inch five-spoke black alloy wheels. The Adventure joins the traditional trim line-up, which consists of the LE, XLE, SE, Limited, and Platinum.

Powering the 2018 Toyota RAV4 is the 2AR-FE, a 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder engine that provides 176 horsepower and 172 lb-ft of torque. The engine is hooked to an electronically controlled 6-speed automatic transmission. The standard drivetrain is a front-wheel drive system with automatic limited-slip differential. With its powertrain and drivetrain configuration, the new RAV4 provides up to 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. With seating for up to five people, the crossover has a cargo space of 38.4 cubic feet, which can be expanded to 73.4 cubic feet thanks to the 60/40 split-folding rear seatback. The front seats get sports bolsters once you get up to the XLE trim; and vinyl seat trim (in place of fabric), front-seat heating capability, and driver-side 8-way power adjustability with power lumbar support appear on the SE. A position memory system is added for the driver's seat on the upper-level Limited and Platinum.

For comfort and convenience, the 2018 RAV4 starts off with features like a rearview camera, remote keyless entry, Bluetooth connectivity, voice recognition, and a six-speaker stereo system with a 6.1-inch touchscreen display. Starting with the XLE, you can get additions and enhancements like dual-zone automatic climate control and a power tilt-and-slide moonroof. The SE's infotainment system is enhanced with components like HD Radio and a free three-month SiriusXM satellite radio subscription. Go up to at least the Limited to get features like a smart key system with push-button engine start, as well as the replacement of the 6.1-inch display with a 7-inch high-resolution touchscreen. Exclusive to the Platinum is a bird's-eye-view camera (in place of the rearview camera), an 11-speaker JBL stereo system, a frameless auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink for remote-controlling garage doors, and the Entune App Suite to help you do things that range from buying movie tickets and making a reservation to checking out fuel prices and game scores. The airbag system on the 2018 RAV4 consists of dual front impact airbags, a driver's side knee airbag, a front passenger seat-cushion airbag, dual front seat-mounted side impact airbags, and front- and second-row side curtains. Other standard safety features include the Toyota Safety Sense suite, which includes lane departure alert with steering assist, dynamic radar cruise control, and pre-collision with pedestrian detection; and the Star Safety System, which includes vehicle stability control, anti-lock braking, traction control, and smart stop technology. On the Limited and Platinum, Toyota adds blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
