What's New for the 2019 Toyota Highlander?

As the reigning best midsize SUV in a very competitive class as designated by U.S. News and World Report, the Toyota Highlander is an excellent choice if you need a new family crossover that can accommodate up to eight passengers. This award-winner also named one of the best three-row SUVs for the money, has just a few minor changes for the 2019 model year. All Highlander trims have been treated to a few exterior tweaks, including black body rocker panels for the LE, LE Plus, and XLE trims. The Limited and Platinum trims get chrome LED fog lights. The SE trim has new black rocker panel covers and wheels, as well as black chrome, LED fog lights and darkened headlights and taillights. A special Nightshade Edition is also new this year for the Highlander SE. This stylish blackout treatment includes exterior accents such as a blackfin antenna, 19-inch wheels, headlights, fog lamps, door handles, and rear spoiler. This limited Toyota run of just 5,000 SUVs is available with the Midnight Black Metallic, Predawn Gray Mica, Salsa Red Pearl, and Blizzard Pearl exterior paint options.

Fans of the Highlander tout its expansive cargo space of nearly 84 cubic feet with the seats folded flat. Standard features include a 6.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, voice recognition commands, Bluetooth, and five USB ports. Highlander drivers can choose either a 185-horsepower four-cylinder engine in the base model or a 3.5-liter V6 that produces 295 horsepower in higher trims (or as an upgrade in the entry-level SUV). Both front-wheel and all-wheel drive are available, as well as a hybrid version that comes standard with all-wheel drive. This Toyota received a five-star overall crash test rating from the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration and is designated as a Top Safety Pick of the Insurance Institute on Highway Safety (IIHS). Every trim comes with an array of standard safety features, including forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, a rearview camera, lane keep assist, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams.
